ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Pakistan and India on Thursday exchanged lists of prisoners as a part of consular access agreement between the two countries, the Foreign Office said.

Under the agreement on consular access signed between Pakistan and India on May 21, 2008, both countries are required to exchange lists of prisoners in each other’s custody twice a year on January 1 and July 1 respectively.

In a statement, the Foreign Office said that consistent with the provisions of this agreement, Pakistan has handed over a list of 526 Indian prisoners including 50 civilians and 476 fishermen in Pakistan to the High Commission of India in Islamabad on Thursday.

A similar list of Pakistani prisoners lodged in Indian jails was also handed over to the High Commission for Pakistan in New Delhi today, the Foreign Office said.

Similarly, both countries also exchanged their lists of nuclear installations and facilities.

Both Pakistan and India are required to exchange lists of their respective nuclear installations and facilities in accordance with article-II of the agreement on prohibition of attacks against nuclear installations and facilities between Pakistan and India of December 31, 1988.

The Foreign Office said that in accordance with aforesaid agreement a list of requisite facilities in Pakistan was officially handed over to a representative of the Indian High Commission at the Foreign Office today.

The Indian side also handed over its list to the Pakistan High Commission by the Ministry of External Affairs in New Delhi.
