Pakistan had no prior knowledge of US operation against Osama: FO

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Foreign Office on Thursday strongly rejected allegations that Pakistan had prior knowledge of the US operation against Al-Qaeda leader Osama Bin Laden in Abbottabad.

The US investigative journalist Seymour Hersh in his article in the latest edition of the London Review of Books argued that Pakistani authorities knew about the whereabouts of Osama Bin Laden and that the Al-Qaeda leader was killed in a joint operation between the US and Pakistani military agencies on May 2, 2011.

In his weekly news briefing in Islamabad on Thursday, the Foreign Office Spokesperson Qazi Khalil Ullah said that the accusations made by Seymour Hersh about Pakistan in this regard are totally baseless.

The spokesman said that Pakistan’s commitment towards eliminating terrorism remains firm. He said that it has rendered enormous sacrifices in the fight against terrorism.

Khalil Ullah said that the ongoing military operation against terrorism is a clear manifestation of our determination to root out terrorism in all its forms and manifestations.

In reply to a question about the Indian intelligence agency Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) using Afghan soil against Pakistan, the spokesperson said that bilateral relations between Pakistan and Afghanistan stipulates in clear terms that we will not allow our territory used against each other.

The foreign office spokesman said that Pakistan has conveyed concerns to the Afghan side that RAW should not use their territory to create instability in Pakistan.

Talking about Saudi-Yemeni conflict, the spokesperson said that Pakistan has welcomed the Saudi decision of ceasefire and announced humanitarian assistance for the brotherly people of Yemen.
