Foreign OfficePakistan firm on taking indiscriminate action against terrorism: FO

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Foreign Office Thursday said Pakistan was firm on pursuing an indiscriminate and unequivocal drive against terrorism in pursuance of the national consensus.

“Pakistan has time again made it very clear that it is fully resolved to eradicate the menace of terrorism and is not making any distinction in this regard,” the Foreign Office spokesman said in a weekly media briefing here at the Foreign Office.

Spokesman, Nafees Zakaria said there was a national consensus that terrorism must be forged with absolute resolve.

“Pakistan is the biggest victim of terrorism. Unlike some elements in other states, all institutions and segments of society in Pakistan are united [over the issue],” he said.

The Spokesman condemned the terrorist incident in Peshawar on Wednesday that took several innocent lives.

About response by Afghan authorities over any concrete action taken against hideouts in Afghanistan, he said there was a mechanism already in place for consultation, coordination and collaboration on security matters, which he said, was being followed between the two governments.

To a question about the formal meeting between Advisor to Prime Minister Sartaj Aziz and his Indian counterpart Sushma Swaraj to be held in Nepal, the spokesman said the agenda of the meeting was open.

He said the meeting was not specifically meant to discuss the prospects of any upcoming meeting of the prime ministers of Pakistan and India on the sidelines of Nuclear Security Summit in Washington late March.
