Pakistan was elected to the Executive Committee of the Commonwealth Secretariat for the 2013-2015 term during the Board of Governors’ annual meeting on Thursday.

According to a message received here from London‚ the Executive Committee is an important body of the Commonwealth Secretariat and is comprised of a select group of member countries representing various regions of the Commonwealth.

It is mandated to oversee all matters related to finance‚ personnel‚ and administration; make policy recommendations; and review and finalize plans and budgets for presentation to the Board of Governors.

The Commonwealth Secretariat is one of the three intergovernmental organizations of the Commonwealth. It promotes democracy and socio-economic development across the Commonwealth through technical assistance‚ advice and policy development in accordance with the plans agreed to by the Commonwealth Heads of Government in their biennial meetings.
