Pakistan, China to sign agreements worth $35 billion during Nawaz’s visit

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Pakistan and China would sign $35 billion worth of investment agreements during Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s visit to China, the premier’s spokesman Dr Musadik Malik told media on Thursday.

The prime minister will leave for Beijing on Friday on an official visit, the Foreign Office Spokesperson Tasneem Aslam said at her weekly news briefing in Islamabad on Thursday.

The spokesperson said that the prime minister will hold meetings with the Chinese President Xi Jinping and his Chinese counterpart Li Keqiang during his visit.

The two countries will sign a number of agreements mostly related to the field of energy and memorandum of understanding (MoUs) during the prime minister’s visit, she said.

Talking to media after today’s cabinet meeting, Dr Musadik Malik said that 14 projects relate to electricity generation of 10,400 megawatts besides several contracts for infrastructure development and development of Gwadar Port in Balochistan. These also include construction of Khuzdar-Gwadar road as part of China-Pakistan economic corridor.

The premier’s spokesman said that the two countries would also sign agreements for cooperation in railways and establishment of special economic zones during Sharif’s visit.

Dr Musadik Malik said that the prime minister would also visit China, Germany and Britain this month to carry forward the process of economic collaboration and investment promotion.
