ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Senate Standing Committee on Defense Production was informed on Thursday that Pakistan has the capability to build all kinds of drones.

The committee was informed when it met at the Parliament House in Islamabad on Thursday with Senator Lieutenant General (retd) Abdul Qayyum in the chair.

On March 13 this year, Pakistan successfully test fired its first indigenous armed drone named ‘Burraq’ and its laser guided missile named ‘Barq’.

Later on September 7, ‘Burraq’ drone was used for the first time when it struck a terrorist compound in Shawal Valley of North Waziristan, killing three high profile militants.

The meeting was also informed that Pakistani engineers also prepared the design of JF-17 thunder fighter jets, having the capability to carry all kinds of warheads.

The Chairman of Pakistan Aeronautical Complex (PAC) Kamra told the meeting that Airborne Warning and Control System (AWACS) aircraft which got damaged in terrorist attack on Kamra has been repaired costing $15 million and made operational in 10 months time.

The officials of Pakistan Navy told the meeting that feasibility study has been prepared to build shipyard at Gawadar’s deep sea port.

The Air Chief reiterated his resolve to further enhance the existing bilateral cooperation between the two strategic partners. Commander AFCENT appreciated Pakistan’s efforts in promoting regional peace and vowed to enhance cooperation in the fields of joint training, mutual exercises and military to military collaboration. In a separate meeting, Chief of the Air Staff also called on Field Marshal Shaikh Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, Commander-in-Chief of the Bahrain Defence Force.
