Pakistan, Afghanistan agree to work closely for peace

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Pakistan and Afghanistan have agreed to work closely for peace, stability and security in Afghanistan which is essential for peace and socio-economic development in the region.

The agreement came during a meeting between the Afghan Deputy Foreign Minister Hekmat Khalil Karzai and the Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs Syed Tariq Fatemi in Islamabad.

During the meeting, Pakistan’s contribution for Afghanistan’s reconstruction, rehabilitation, peace and security was appreciated.

Tariq Fatemi expressed satisfaction that the two sides were constructively engaged in improving bilateral relations in diverse fields including political, trade, defence and security.

The prime minister’s special assistant reiterated Pakistan’s firm resolve to fully support Afghanistan’s efforts for peace and stability through facilitating an Afghan-owned and Afghan-led peace and reconciliation process.

Pakistan condemns terror attack at military base in southern Afghanistan

Meanwhile, Pakistan has strongly condemned the terrorist attack that took place on May 25 at Nawzad district of Afghanistan’s southern Helmand province resulting in death of 26 soldiers.

“Our deepest sympathies and condolences go to the families of the deceased,” the Foreign Office Spokesman Qazi Khalil Ullah said in a statement issued in Islamabad on Wednesday.

The spokesman said that such acts are unjustifiable and cannot be tolerated.

“Terrorism is our common enemy,” he said.

The foreign office spokesman said that comprehensive and coordinated measures are imperative to root-out this menace from our region.

Khalil Ullah also reiterated Pakistan’s condemnation of terrorism in all its forms and manifestations.
