Pakistan not to accept supremacy, hegemony of any country: Aziz

ISLAMABAD: The prime minister’s advisor on national security and foreign affairs Sartaj Aziz said on Tuesday that Pakistan will not accept supremacy or hegemony of any other country, adding that government is committed not to interfere in matters of other countries.

“Pakistan will not accept supremacy or hegemony of any other country,” Aziz said while winding up debate on a motion regarding the government’s foreign policy in the National Assembly on Tuesday.

The premier’s advisor said that the government is pursuing a clear‚ balanced and sovereign foreign policy. He said that foreign and defence policies will also be made part of internal security policy.

Aziz said that the second component of the policy is economic development. He said that a shift has been made from aid to trade with other countries.

Sartaj Aziz said that the third objective of the foreign policy focuses on exploiting full potential of the country’s geographic position which, he said, will help enhance trade and economic relations with regional and other countries and strengthening of national economy.

Pakistan has not backtracked from gas pipeline project with Iran

The advisor made it clear that the Pakistan-Iran gas pipeline is still on the priority list of the government. He rejected the impression that Pakistan has backtracked from the project under the US pressure.

Aziz said that the project will be pursued further after the relaxation of US sanctions on Iran.
