Karachi: The rescue operation by the Pakistan Army is in progress following the heavy rains in the city.

So for over four hundred rain affecters have been shifted to the safer places while relief goods including food is being distributed.

Death toll from Karachi rain increases to 23 and several injured in rain-related incidents.Several roads in the city were flooded with rain water which also caused traffic jams.

Different cities and towns in the interior of Sindh also received heavy rainfall.In Hyderabad‚ heavy downpour in various parts of district badly disturbed the civic activities.

Almost all low lying areas of Hyderabad City‚ Latifabad and Qasimabad submerged in high water. On the request of the Sindh Governor the Army and Navy have started emergency relief operation in rain effected low lying areas of Karachi.

They have rescued fifty persons stranded in rain water and shifted them to safer places.Sindh rangers have set up a relief camp in Lasi Goth to provide relief to the rain hit people. Pakistan Navy has also set up relief camps in Jalbani Town and Gadap Town areas.

The areas that are badly affected due to rains include Safora Goth‚ Amroha Society‚ Sadi Town and Gadap Town.

Efforts are also going on to drain the rain water from these areas and several other areas. Electricity supply is still suspended in several areas to prevent the incidents of electrocution.

Sind Minister for Local Government Syed Owais Muzzafar has suspended the Administrator of Karachi Metropolitan Corporation Hashim Raza Zaidi and Director Municipal Services Masood Alam on account of failure to manage post- rain crisis in the metropolis.

The Minister suspended the KMC officials after a visit to different areas along with Provincial Information Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon to inspect the situation following heavy rains in the city.

Meanwhile‚ flood water is reducing in hill torrents of Dera Ghazi Khan and situation becoming normal.

A spokesman of district government told Radio Pakistan’s Multan correspondent that relief workers have been directed to remain alert to cope with any untoward situation in the district.

According to District Administration Tank‚ 6 people have lost their lives and 10 others have been injured in heavy floods in the district.

Meanwhile‚ Director General Punjab Disaster Management Authority Muhammad Asif sought a report from the administration about damages caused due to flood in Nullah Dek of Narowal and hill torrents of Dera Ghazi Khan.

He said district administration is keeping an eye over rise and fall of water as a result of monsoon rains in Nullah Dek and other nullahs and it was fully alert to cope with any possible threat.

The DG PDMA said that intensity of hill torrents of Rajan Pur is being especially monitored. The Commissioner and District Administration are reviewing every situation.

He said that district administrations of all the province had been directed to set up relief camps on the spot and store edible items and medicines for coping with any emergent situation.

Meanwhile‚ Minister for Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir Affairs Chaudhry Barjees Tahir has directed Chief Secretary Gilgit-Baltistan to provide immediate relief to the flood-affected areas.

He also asked the chief secretary to restore the disconnected communication system of different areas of Gilgit-Baltistan.

According to Flood Cell Peshawar‚ River Kabul at Warsak and River Adezai at Adezai Bridge are in High Flood this morning.

River Kabul at Nowshera‚ River Shah Alam at Takhtabad‚ River Kurram at Kurram Garhi Headworks and River Indus at Khairabad are in Medium Flood. Discharge of water in River Kabul at Nowshera will increase later today.

Similarly‚ River Panjkora at Dir and River Khiali and Naguman at Charsadda Road are in Low Flood.

Meteorological Department has forecast scattered rain with thundershower in Sindh‚ Kalat‚ Sibi‚ Makran‚ Lahore divisions while at isolated places of Malakand‚ Hazara‚ Gujranwala divisions and Kashmir during the next 12 hours.
