Opposition welcomes PM’s offer of talks to Taliban

ISLAMABAD: The opposition parties in the National Assembly on Wednesday welcomed Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s offer of talks to the Taliban, and extended their support for the government’s initiative for dialogue process.

Earlier, in his address to the lower house of the parliament, the prime minister constituted a four-member committee for talks with the Taliban, saying the government has adopted the path of talks with them to give peace another chance in the lager interest of the country.

The prime minister also invited all the political parties to join hands with the government and give valuable suggestions for the success of peace process.

Speaking on the floor of the National Assembly, the opposition leader in the house and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) senior leader Syed Khurshid Ahmad Shah said that the entire opposition stands by the government for security and stability of the country and it will not do any politics on sensitive issues.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan while supporting the government’s initiative for dialogue process suggested that these should be held openly.

Imran said that the politicians should stop giving conflicting statements on the issue because there is a dire need to unite the nation.

On the occasion, Jamiat Uleme-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) leader Maulana Fazlur Rehman said that we have to take forward the national consensus developed by the All Parties Conference.

The JUI-F leader appreciated the prime minister for again according priority to the peace and dialogue process and giving a future roadmap for negotiations. He said that said we will support the dialogue process to accomplish the goal of peace and stability.

Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) leader Farooq Sattar voiced concerns over the recent acts of terrorism in the country and said that the government should seriously make efforts for bringing peace to the country.
