NSC resolves to make Pakistan cradle of peace

ISLAMABAD: The National Security Committee (NSC) on Thursday resolved to make Pakistan a cradle of peace in the region to ensure stability and progress.

In its meeting held under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif at the Prime Minister’s House in Islamabad on Thursday, the NSC also expressed the resolve to forge better relations with neighbouring countries.

The NSC meeting also discussed overall national security situation besides other matters of national importance.

In his opening remarks, the prime minister said that the committee is the highest forum of consultation in which all state institutions express their opinion on national issues. He said the committee provides a forum to the institutions to give suggestions for resolution of issues and national development.

The prime minister said that this forum takes decisions on national issues with collective wisdom.

The meeting was briefed about the overall law and order situation in the country and the measures taken by the government to bring peace.

The prime minister briefed the participants about his recent visit to China and the latest situation on the proposed Pak-China trade corridor. He also briefed on the development projects in energy and communication sectors which will be completed at a cost of thirty five billion dollars on priority basis with Chinese assistance. The prime minister expressed the confidence that the trade corridor will go a long way in generating economic activities in the region.

The finance minister Ishaq Dar briefed the committee regarding issuance of Euro bond and said that it was historic return to the international bond market which was a successful stride.

The premier’s advisor on national security Sartaj Aziz briefed the meeting regarding the Afghan situation and the transition process after recently held presidential elections in Afghanistan.

The interior minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan briefed the participants about the security situation and the strategy of dialogue with the Taliban to counter terrorism.

The Director General Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) Lt. General Zaheerul Islam and the Director General Intelligence Bureau Aftab Sultan briefed the meeting about the security situation and other related issues.
