ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Awami National Party (ANP) Chief Asfandyar Wali has said that Mian Raza Rabbani is the most deserving candidate for the post of Chairman Senate.
Talking to media after a meeting with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in Islamabad on Tuesday, the ANP leader said that his party proposed the name of Raza Rabbani for the post which has been endorsed by the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) co-chairperson Asif Ali Zardari.
The ANP leader said that Raza Rabbani has made sincere efforts for the supremacy of the constitution and the Parliament.
Asfandyar Wali his party wants that the deputy chairman of the upper House may be elected from Balochistan and hoped a consensus will be emerged among the political parties for both the offices which will help further strengthen democracy in the country.
Earlier in a meeting between the prime minister and the ANP chief, both the leaders discussed current political situation.
The two leaders also discussed the issue of the election of Chairman and Deputy Chairman of the Senate.
The prime minister has invited political leaders at a lunch today to discuss the issue and find suitable candidates for the top slots.
