BusinessNo notification issued yet of POL price reversal despite PM order

ISLAMABAD: The notification for reversal of hike in prices of petroleum has not been issued yet as differences between the Ministry of Petroleum and the Ministry of Finance over petroleum levy continue to prevail, Dispatch News Desk (DND) reported on Sunday.

Despite the order of Prime Minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf to roll back prices to the February 28 levels, petrol is still being sold at the March 1 price in several cities across the country.

On Thursday, the government increased prices of petroleum products in a range between Rs 3.53 and Rs 4.35 per litre and the revised prices were to be effective from March 1, triggering strong protests and walkouts by opposition parties from the National Assembly.

In a bid to pacify the protesters and lessen the burden on common men, the Prime Minister, on Saturday, directed to withdraw the increase in prices of petroleum products.

However, on Sunday, spokesman to the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) said they have not so far received written directives from the PM office.

According to the notification issued on Thursday, from March 1 the price of petrol would have been increased by Rs3.53 per litre (3.42 per cent) to Rs106.60, that of high speed diesel by Rs4.35 (3.99 per cent) to Rs113.56, kerosene by Rs3.75 (3.76 per cent) to Rs103.69 and light diesel by Rs3.93 (4.2 per cent) to Rs98.25.
