Nisar terms Dasti’s allegations as baseless, assures action if anybody found guilty

ISLAMABAD: The federal minister for interior Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan on Friday rejected allegations levelled by Jamashed Dasti about immoral activities at the Parliament Lodges, seeking evidences from the member and assuring that action would be taken if anybody was found guilty.

On Thursday, Jamashed Dasti, an Independent member in National Assembly from Muzaffargarh, alleged that a number of parliamentarians were involved in immoral activities at the Parliament Lodges.

“Girls are brought in the lodges and Mujras (dance parties) are arranged,” Dasti said while speaking on a point of order in the house. He said that the parliament lodges had become a den of immoral activities as liquor worth Rs40 million to Rs50m was supplied there and the odour of liquor as well as charas was pervasive.

In response to a point of order in the lower of the parliament on Friday, the interior minister said that instead of maligning the elected representatives, the member might have brought forth evidence if he had any, to the knowledge of the speaker.

“I am ready for an action. I do not doubt the intention of anybody. But, playing up the matter that way was itself improper,” Nisar said.

“From his statement everybody seems to be immoral. This earns bad name for parliamentarians. The situation may also not be ideal if practices of people in other professions are evaluated. But, we the parliamentarians always have to pay a price.”

The interior minister said that the lawmakers might know better as to who was his target but blaming in totality sends a wrong message within the country and abroad.

“If anybody is guilty he should be identified. But, innocent people cannot be blamed for follies they have not committed,” he said.

Nisar said that during past few months, the government enhanced security at parliament lodges and now every vehicle is fully checked except those carrying parliamentarians and ministers.

“We want to see rule of law and this is manifested in the traffic system and every violator either from judiciary, military, politicians and other citizens are penalized on traffic violations,” the interior minister said.

“Even my car was challaned twice and so was the case with other people. When the law takes its course nobody objects. Even ministers have paid fine for traffic violations,” he added.

Chaudhry Nisar informed the house that he conducted thorough investigation from last night and gathered the record of CCTV cameras and it was found, “the allegation of the member was totally baseless.”

“I have informed the House about my findings. Had I got any information, I would have presented before the House. Now, if the said member has any evidence he should provide us and we will investigate the matter to the bottom,” Nisar added.
