PakistanNisar reviews progress on NAP, INGOs' registration

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Minister for Interior Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan Monday chaired a meeting to review progress on the National Action Plan (NAP) and international non-governmental organizations (INGOs).

The meeting formally started approving INGOs’ operational activities under the new policy.

“It is for the first time in the country’s history that two INGOs have been formally allowed to work there after their registration,” said a press release.

Qatar Charity and MSF Belgium are the two INGOs, which have been allowed to work in Pakistan.

The meeting was informed that 127 INGOs have so far submitted their applications for registration under the new policy.

Minister for Interior Nisar Ali Khan directed members of the ministerial committee to process the remaining applications at the earliest.

He asked the quarters concerned to extend all possible government support to the registered INGOs in carrying out their activities.

The new registration policy, the minister said, was aimed at further strengthening the government-INGOs partnership and make working of the organizations easier.

Nisar directed to further expedite and organize the process of compiling statistics on all points of NAP, adding that there should be effective monitoring of each and every point in collaboration with provincial governments.

There should be rating of all the points with regard to their implementation and performances, he said, adding that the departments and governments concerned must focus on those points, where pace and progress was not satisfactory.

The meeting observed that overall law and order had improved in the country due to the NAP rather the nation, which was surrounded by terrorism, was now in the high spirit against the menace.

The NAP, it observed, had the full backing of the entire nation as it was not the plan of any political party, group or government, rather it was a ‘national plan’.

“Implementation on NAP will continue with full force and determination,” the minister remarked.

Moscow says it won’t allow US to silence UNSC on Israeli violence against Palestinians Monitoring Desk: Russian envoy in United Nations Vasily Nebenzya said that the UN Security Council should bring peace, stability and prosperity to the Middle East and Russia would not allow United States to silence UNSC over the issue of Gaza crisis. According to TASS news Agency, Nebenzya said that Moscow will continue to call for an end to violence against Palestinians and will not allow the US to muzzle the UN Security Council as Washington seeks to support Israel's operation in Gaza. "We will continue to stand firmly for ending violence against the Palestinians. Without a shadow of a doubt, we will continue to expose the abuses and sanctimony with which the US is handling the situation. We will not allow the Americans to gag the entire council with their hands in an effort to encourage further continuation of Israel's ruthless operation," he said in a speech at the Security Council.
