Government of PakistanNisar conveys to US envoy Pakistan’s concerns over Congressmen’s statements

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan on Thursday expressed deep concerns over statements of some US Congress members and other officials regarding role of Pakistan in fight against terrorism.

Last Tuesday, top US lawmakers including Congressman Matt Salmon, Congressman Brad Sherman and Congressman William Keating demanded cutting off all US assistance to Pakistan to persuade Islamabad to act against the Afghan Taliban groups allegedly using its territory to launch operations into Afghanistan.

“Pakistan and its citizens have sacrificed a lot in war against terror but it is regrettable that US parliamentarians have no realization that how much it lost to curb the menace,” Nisar said while talking to the US ambassador to Pakistan David Hale who met him in Islamabad on Thursday and discussed matters relating to bilateral ties and cooperation, and overall regional security situation.

The minister said that such statements cause strong reaction in Pakistan against the United States.

Nisar said that un-necessary criticism and practice of levelling false allegations on Pakistan’s serious efforts for peace in the region create hurdles in attaining mutual interests. He said that the achievements in war on terror reflect Pakistan’s sincere efforts it made for security of the region.

Chaudhry Nisar said that the US government acknowledges achievements made during on-going war against terrorism, especially Zarb-e-Azb for lasting peace in the region.

The US ambassador lauded the steps taken by Ministry of Interior and Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) in security and immigration areas.
