WorldNice attack: France under threat of Islamic terrorism, says Hollande

NICE, France: The French President Francois Hollande while condemning the Nice terrorist attack as a “monstrosity,” on Friday extended the State of Emergency in the Country for further three months.

Last night, a truck ran through a crowd of people who were watching a fireworks display in the French Riviera city of Nice for Bastille Day, the French National Day. The attack caused 84 deaths and injuries to more than 100 people.

In his televised address to the nation following the incident, the French president said that there could be no doubt that it was an act of terror.

“France as a whole is under the threat of Islamic terrorism,” Hollande said. “We have to demonstrate absolute vigilance and show determination that is unfailing.”

Talking to media, the French Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve said that the truck attack was carried out on the seaside avenue of Nice, adding that among the injured, 18 people were in critical condition.

The official sources said that the truck drive was also shot dead by police after he hit his vehicle with the crowd; however, his identity was yet to be ascertained. The sources also told that weapons were also found in the truck.
