ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has said that he desires to see Gilgit-Baltistan as a developed and prosperous area where a new Chief Minister affiliated with the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has taken charge.
In a telephonic conversation with the new Chief Minister Gilgit-Baltistan Hafiz Hafeezur Rehman, the prime minister expressed the hope that the new Gilgit-Baltistan government will put the region on track of development and prosperity.
The PML-N emerged as the single largest party in Gilgit-Baltistan after it won 14 its legislative assembly seats out of 24 in the elections held on June 8.
The prime minister said that PML-N’s victory in elections reveals full confidence of the people of Gilgit-Baltistan in the party’s policies.
On the occasion, the chief minister assured the prime minister that he will work day and night to make Gilgit-Baltistan a modern and developed area.
The telephonic conversation was held after the newly elected Chief Minister of Gilgit-Baltistan Hafiz Hafeezur Rehman took oath of his office at a ceremony in Gilgit on Friday evening.
The Governor Gilgit-Baltistan Chaurhdy Barjees Tahir administered the oath to him.
The prime minister also felicitated Haji Fida Muhammad Nashad and Jaffarullah Khan on their unopposed election as the Speaker and Deputy Speaker of Gilgit-Baltistan Legislative Assembly.
