MUZAFFARABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has said that the United Nations will have to break its silence on the implementation of its resolutions on Kashmir dispute.

In his address at the joint session of Azad Jammu & Kashmir Legislative Assembly and Kashmir Council in Muzaffarabad on Thursday on the occasion of Kashmir Solidarity Day, he said that resolution of Kashmir dispute in accordance with the UN Security Council resolutions is imperative for durable peace in the region.

The prime minister said that he has forcefully raised the Kashmir dispute at the international forums including the United Nations and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).

Sharif said that Pakistan seeks meaningful and result-oriented dialogue with India for the resolution of outstanding issues. However, he added, the agenda of Pakistan-India dialogue will remain inconclusive without inclusion of Kashmir dispute.

The premier said that Pakistan will continue to extend moral, diplomatic and political support to Kashmiri people for their unprecedented struggle for the right to self- determination.

“Pakistan will not accept any solution of Kashmir dispute that is contrary to the aspirations of Kashmiri people,” he once again reaffirmed.

In addition, he said that the international community has also recognized that the struggle of Kashmiri people could not be suppressed through the use of force by India.

Kashmir Solidarity Day being observed

Meanwhile, Kashmir Solidarity Day is being observed across the country, Azad Jammu & Kashmir and by Pakistani expatriates today to remind the international community about its commitments regarding Kashmiris’ right to self-determination.

The observance of the day since 1991 is aimed at conveying a loud and clear message to India that the Kashmiris are not alone in their struggle and sooner or later, it will have to give them their right to decide their political future by themselves as guaranteed by the relevant UN resolutions.

It is also a reminder to the world community to fulfill its obligations towards resolving the long-pending Kashmir dispute in accordance with the aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
