ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has urged the nation to move forward while not repeating the mistakes done in the past to make the country a prosperous and self-reliant.
His remarks came as the entire nation is celebrating the 68th Independence Day on Friday with traditional zeal and fervor pledging afresh to make the country a true Islamic welfare state as envisioned by Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah.
In his message on the occasion, the prime minister felicitated the nation on Independence Day and said that 14th of August is a day of self-accountability.
“We should learn from our past mistakes due to which we were left behind other nations,” Sharif said.
The prime minister urged the people to continue struggle to make Pakistan strong and prosperous with the power of faith, unity and discipline.
“We are determined to root out the menace of terrorism and operation Zarb-e-Azb reflects our commitment,” he added.
President Mamnoon Hussain in his message also felicitated the nation on Independence Day emphasizing forging unity in their ranks to achieve the very objectives of the creation of Pakistan.
The president said that Dr Allama Iqbal had dreamt of an independent and sovereign Muslim state and the great leadership of Quaid-i-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah materialised this dream.
“We should remember those who sacrificed everything for the sake of freedom,” he said.
President Mamnoon stressed the need for complete unity and harmony for the development and progress of Pakistan.
