ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif will pay a two-day official visit to Tajikistan from Tuesday at the invitation of his Tajik Counterpart Qohir Rasulzoda.

During the visit, Nawaz Sharif will have a tete-a-tete meeting with President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon followed by delegation-level talks to discuss the whole range of bilateral cooperation including the energy, power and connectivity sectors.

The two sides will also exchange views on regional and international issues of mutual concern.

The prime minister will also lead Pakistan’s delegation to the International Conference on the Implementation of the International Decade for Action, “Water for Life” 2005-2015 in Dushanbe.

The conference is being hosted by Tajikistan in pursuance of the UN General Assembly resolution which was co-sponsored by Pakistan and is expected to attract high-level participation from a large number of countries as well as the UN Secretary General and representatives of other relevant international and regional bodies.

It will review status of implementation of the objectives of the Decade which include implementation of water-related internationally agreed goals.

The conference will adopt a ‘Declaration’, suggesting, inter alia, measures to further enhance cooperation at all levels for expeditious implementation of such goals to achieve socio-economic sustainable development.

Nawaz Sharif during his visit to Tajikistan will be accompanied by the Minister for Water and Power Khawaja Muhammad Asif and Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs Tariq Fatemi.
