ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif Thursday said that Pakistan and Canada should continue close collaboration in regional security, political and economic fields.
In a meeting with Canadian High Commissioner to Pakistan Heather Cruden here at the PM House, the Prime Minister called for greater people-to-people contacts and strengthening bilateral ties between the two countries.
The Prime Minister said relations between Pakistan and Canada were based on strong foundation of friendship, mutual respect and cooperation.
He said that Pakistan valued its relations with Canada as partners in the common endeavor to promote global peace and stability, and the fight against terrorism.
He mentioned Pakistan’s unmatched sacrifices in the fight against terrorism, and said Pakistan considered as essential all regional and international initiatives to combat militancy and extremism.
Appreciating Canada’s support in Pakistan’s energy and development projects, the Prime Minister said considerable potential needed to be explored for cooperation in the field of defence, defence production and procurement.
Heather Cruden lauded various initiatives taken by the government under the leadership of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif for countering terrorism, revival of economy, and steps for women empowerment.
The Canadian High Commissioner said that Pakistan was satisfactorily marching on progressive path due to the initiatives of the present government.
She acknowledging Nawaz Sharif’s vision of “comprehensive and enduring partnership” with Afghanistan, and said that Canada would contribute to the security and prosperity of Afghanistan and Pakistan besides reinforcing efforts for regional peace and development.
