ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: While expressing concern over embarrassing performance of Pakistan’s Hockey team in World Hockey League, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has sought explanation from the Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) in this regard.
On Friday, Pakistan failed to qualify for the 2016 Rio Olympics following an embarrassing 0-1 defeat at the hands of Ireland during the Hockey World League in Antwer city of Belgium.
It is the first time that Pakistan have failed to qualify for the Olympics in their illustrious hockey history.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the prime minister took strong notice of Hockey team’s defeat in World Hockey League.
Sharif, who is also Patron-in-Chief of the PHF, sought explanation from the federation officials and the Sports Ministry that how a three-time gold medallist team plunged so low in performance.
It was a must-win game for Pakistan to secure place in the 2016 Rio Olympics when it took on Ireland in the 5-8 position classification match of the Hockey World League in Antwerp on Friday. However, it lost the match 0-1.
Last year, Pakistan even did not participate in the Hockey World Cup after failing to qualify for the main even because of their previous disastrous performance.
