Nawaz Sharif lauds sacrifices of tribal people in war against terror

PESHAWAR, Pakistan: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif visited Mir Ali town of the North Waziristan tribal region on Friday to review the process of return of the Temporarily Displaced Persons (TDPs) to their homes began in March.

During his visit, the prime minister was also accompanied by the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif, Minister for States and Frontier Regions Abdul Qadir Baloch and the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Mehtab Ahmed Khan.

The prime minister was given a briefing on the ongoing military operation Zarb-e-Azb and return of the TDPs to their homes in Mir Ali town of North Waziristan agency.

Nawaz Sharif was informed that most of the areas in North Waziristan have been cleared of terrorists in the operation Zarb-e-Azb.

In his remarks on the occasion, the prime minister lauded the sacrifices of the tribal people in the war against terrorism. He said that the state has high regard for patriotism and sacrifice of the people in the tribal areas.

Sharif said that the tribal people had to leave their homes for a limited period to help the security forces carry out an effective operation against the terrorists in the area.

Earlier in the morning, the prime minister arrived on a brief visit to Peshawar to hand over cheques to the rain and storm affected people of Peshawar, Charsadda and Nowshera.

The prime minister was received at the airport by the Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
