ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has said that Pakistan and Belarus need to fully tap the huge potential and work hard towards the goal of enhancing the bilateral trade volume from $ 50 million to $ 1 billion in the next four years.

In a meeting with the President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko at the PM House in Islamabad on Wednesday, the prime minister said that Pakistan and Belarus have signed over 50 agreements and memorandum of understandings (MoUs) in the last 16 months.

“I am pleased to note that both sides will sign more MoU during this visit”, he said and also stressed to accelerate implementation of these agreements and MoUs.

“Your visit is reflective of our growing friendship and bilateral ties. I am very pleased to note that our bilateral relationship is expanding in diverse areas. We need to maintain this momentum”, the prime minister added.president-of-belarus-alexander-lukashenko-and-prime-minister-nawaz-sharif

The prime minister further said that the security situation in Pakistan has improved considerably, paving the way for increased economic and investment opportunities.

“We need to further encourage joint ventures and business to business contacts in the areas of textiles, agricultural equipment and products, heavy machinery, pharmaceuticals, and automotives,” he emphasized.

The prime minister also congratulated the Belarusian president on the successful holding of Parliamentary elections in Belarus last month.

President of Belarus thanked the prime minister for the warm welcomed extended to him and his delegation in Pakistan. The President deeply appreciated the progress and development made in various sectors of Pakistani economy. He congratulated the prime minister for the economic turnaround.

Alexander Lukashenko said that Belarus is eager to enhance cooperation with Pakistan in diverse fields and sectors. He stressed that both the countries need to fully capitalize on the huge potential which will certainly benefit the people of both the countries.

Earlier, formal welcoming ceremony was held at PM House when the distinguished guest arrived there along with his delegation for talks with the prime minister.
