Nawaz seeks Pak-Afghan join efforts to root out terrorism

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif held a telephonic conversation with the Afghan President Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai, the Foreign Office said.

During the conversation, the prime minister expressed the confidence that Pakistan and Afghanistan will succeed in rooting-out terrorism through joint efforts.

The Foreign Offices said that the prime minister conveyed deep sympathy and condolences over the loss of over 50 human lives caused by a suicide terrorist attack in Afghanistan’s Paktika province on Sunday.

Sharif condemned the attack and conveyed Pakistan’s solidarity with the brotherly Afghan people.

At least 50 persons were killed while 70 others sustained injuries when a suicide attacker detonated himself in the middle of a volleyball match in Yahyakhel district of Afghanistan’s southeastern Paktika province on Sunday.

Meanwhile, the federal defence minister Khawaja Asif said while talking to media after addressing a function at the Institute of Strategic Studies in Islamabad on Tuesday morning that peace and stability in Afghanistan is imperative for peace in the region.

“No country should interfere in the internal affairs of Afghanistan for peace in that country,” he said.

Khawaja Asif reiterated that Pakistan will not interfere in the internal affairs of Afghanistan.
