Nawaz consults party leaders over political situation

ISLAMABAD: A key meeting of the ruling Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PML-N) was held in Islamabad on Tuesday with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in the chair, during which it discussed overall political situation in the country.

The sources said that during the meeting, former president Pervez Musharraf’s request to remove his name from the Exit Control List (ECL) to travel abroad in order to meet his ailing mother was discused.

The meeting also discussed the progress on ongoing peace talks with the Taliban and the future course of action to be adopted in this regard.

Those who attended the meeting among others included Federal Ministers Khwaja Muhammad Asif, Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, Pervaiz Rasheed, Ahsan Iqbal, Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, Opposition Leader in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly Sardar Mehtab Ahmad Khan Abbasi, Special Assistant Irfan Siddiqi and Khwaja Zaheer.

Separately, the prime minister has convened a high level security meeting this afternoon (Tuesday) in Islamabad.

The meeting will be attended by Defense Minister Khwaja Muhammad Asif, Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif, Prime Minister’s Special Assistant Tariq Fatmi and Director General ISI Lieutenant General Zaheer-ul-Islam.
