WASHINGTON: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif held a meeting with the US Vice President Joe Biden in Washington on Thursday during which the two leaders vowed to further strengthen Pakistan-US cooperation.

During the meeting, the two leaders discussed issues pertaining to Pak-US ties, matters of mutual understanding, regional situation and the war on terror.

The bilateral cooperation between Pakistan and the United States also came under discussion in talks between the two dignitaries.

The prime minister informed Joe Biden about his government’s priorities and polices. He also apprised the US Vice President about government’s economic reforms.

Sharif told the US vice president that Pakistan has made remarkable economic progress in last two years.

In his remarks, Joe Biden appreciated Pakistan’s role in war against terrorism. He said the United States will continue its cooperation with Pakistan unless objectives are achieved.

The two leader expressed the resolve for peace and prosperity in the region, and reiterated their willingness to carry forward the peace and reconciliation process in Afghanistan.

In the meeting, the prime minister was assisted by Finance Minister Ishaq Dar, Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif, Foreign Secretary Aizaz Ahmed Chaudhry and other high ranking officials.

Sharif is also scheduled to meet the US President Barack Obama in Washington later in the day as the Pakistani premier is in the US for a four-day official visit.

In the meeting between Sharif and Obama, all subjects of mutual interest and regional situation with particular reference to Pakistan’s ties with Afghanistan and India will be discussed.

The Pakistan-US cooperation in defence and energy will be top on the agenda of the meeting while Sharif will also apprise the US president of Pakistan’s policies for revival of economy, fight against terrorism and the regional situation.
