ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has assured that the Rs341 billion Kissan package will be implemented without any political or regional bias.
In a statement on Friday, the prime minister welcomed the restoration of Kissan package by the Islamabad High Court (IHC) and said that it will benefit farmers of the entire country, particularly the small farmers.
On Thursday, in response to a petition filed by the federal government against the suspension of three points of the package by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), the IHC restored the package.
The prime minister said that farmers will get subsidized loans for agriculture, increased compensation to rice and cotton growers and increase of per index value unit of land from Rs2000 to Rs4000.
Sharif reiterated that the package is for the farmers of Pakistan and will be implemented without any political or regional bias.
The ECP on September 30 had ordered the federal government to stop implementation on three points of the Kissan package till December 3, terming it as an attempt to influence the local bodies elections in Punjab and Sindh.
Later, the federal government moved the IHC against the suspension of Kissan package whose two-member bench comprising Justice Noorul Haq Qureshi and Justice Aamer Farooq on Thursday restored the relief package for the farmers.
