NATO destroyed Medecins Sans Frontieres trauma hospital in Kunduz

Kabul, Afghanistan: Military jets of NATO destroyed a hospital in Kunduz during a overnight “aerial attack” that killed at least seven members of an international NGO –Medecins Sans Frontieres staff as “Collateral damage”.

According to initial reports, NATO jets and US forces conducted an overnight airstrike in Kunduz at 2:15am on Saturday and targeted a hospital in Kunduz. Almost all the hospital was burnt down that was run by International NGO Medecins Sans Frontieres (Doctors Without Borders). Medecins Sans Frontieres officials claimed that 30 staffers were still uncounted for and casuilities could be higher.

 

“We are deeply shocked by the attack, the killing of our staff and patients and the heavy toll it has inflicted on healthcare in Kunduz,” Medecins Sans Frontieres (Doctors Without Borders) said in a statement.  NGO confirmed death three MSF staffers. The attack took place when  80 personnel of NGO were inside the building and looking after 105 patients.

“We do not yet have the final casualty figures, but our medical team are providing first aid and treating the injured patients and MSF personnel and accounting for the deceased,” MSF said.

It may be mentioned that head of team Dr Masood Nasim at trauma hospital in Kunduz told media on Thursday that his hospital was facing hospitalities as being a front line hospital.

Eye witnesses claimed that Taliban and security forces were engaged in fighting near hospital and then there were sounds of heavy shelling, rockets and airplanes.

Meanwhile NATO coalition spokesman Colonel Brian Tribus confirmed that collateral damage to a medical facility. He said the incident was under investigation.

A doctor who worked in hospital while talking international media claimed that operation theater and emergency room were totally destroyed in air raid.

It may be mentioned that fighting has been continuing around Kunduz for the past six days after Taliban won over the city on Monday. NATO and US forces are engage to clear Kunduz from Taliban while helping weak Afghan Army.
