ISLAMABAD: A notification has been issued for dissolving the National Assembly at 12.00 midnight Saturday, first time in Pakistan’s history that the National Assembly has completed its five-year term under Artcile-52 of the constitution, Dispatch News Desk (DND) reported on Saturday.

The notification, to this effect, has been issued by the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, four hours before completion of constitutional period of the Parliament.

According to the notification, under Article-52 of the Constitution the National Assembly, after completing its five-year term, will stand dissolved at 12:00 midnight Saturday.

Prior to this assembly, no other democratically elected assembly in the country’s history completed its term and all previous elected assemblies had been dissolved by the presidents before completion of the terms.

Prime Minister Parvez Ashraf will address the nation through Radio and TV networks at around 10.00pm, to say goodbye on completion of Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP)-led allies rule in the country.

However, although the assemblies will stand dissolved in matter of a few hours, PM Ashraf will continue to serve as Pakistan’s prime minister until the time a caretaker prime minister is inducted.

Soon another official notification will be issued by the Cabinet Division for termination of federal ministers’ status, after end of the National Assembly.
