NADRA submits NA-122 forensic report to election tribunal

LAHORE, Pakistan: As many as 136,000 unverified votes have been found in Lahore’s NA-122 constituency, according to forensic report submitted by the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) to the election tribunal on Saturday.

The tribunal judge Qazim Ali Malik began hearing the case pertaining to alleged rigging in the NA-122 constituency during the 2013 general elections in Islamabad on Saturday.

In the 781-page report submitted by the NADRA, it was revealed that 6,123 votes were cast using invalid Computerized National Identity Cards (CNICs) whereas 370 votes did not have CNICs mentioned.

The report said that 570 people who voted in NA-122 were not registered there while 1715 votes did not have finger prints on counter-foils and 93,582 votes did not have verified thumb impressions on counter foils.

It further said that that 73,478 votes are verified in the constituency.

Later, the tribunal judge while adjourning the hearing summoned NADRA’S DG Syed Muzaffar Ali on May 16 to record his statements before the tribunal in court in order to confirm the report.

On Monday, an election tribunal annulled results of the 2013 election held in Lahore’s NA-125 constituency and ordered a re-poll on the seat won by the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s (PML-N) Khawaja Saad Rafique.

The tribunal observed that massive irregularities and negligence were found during polling in NA-125 constituency.

Both NA-122 and NA-125 are among the four constituencies – others two are NA-110 and NA-154 — where the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has demanded for voters’ thumbprint verification.
