NACTA reviews implementation of anti-terrorism action plan

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: A meeting of the executive board of the National Counter Terrorism Authority (NACTA) was held in Islamabad on Wednesday with the federal interior minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan in the chair.

The meeting reviewed implementation of 20-point counter terrorism national plan of action adopted in an all parties conference held in the wake of Peshawar army public school terror attack.

The meeting was attended by the secretaries of defence, foreign affairs and interior, chief secretaries of Sindh, Balochistan and Azad Kashmir and home secretaries of Punjab and Sindh.

During the meeting, the interior minister said that the anti-terror body has been made fully operational and directed all concerned departments for coordinated and prompt intelligence sharing with the NACTA to foil terrorist and subversive activities across the country.

The interior minister also assured to provide all resources for hurdle-free working of the authority.

On December 27, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif during a meeting of committee constituted to oversee implementation of national plan of action on terrorism in Islamabad directed that the NACTA be made functional with immediate effect.

The NACTA is a body under the interior ministry and is mandated to devise a counter-terrorism strategy that should address short, medium and long-term goals and devise action plans for their implementation.

It was initially set up in 2009 but its power has been greatly increased in March 2013.
