During the meeting, the Senator also tendered his resignation to the prime minister as the Federal Minister for Climate Change over his remarks he made in an interview with BBC Urdu, alleging the former Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) Chief Lieutenant General (retd) Zaheerul Islam of hatching a conspiracy against the government and military leadership.

In an interview to BBC Urdu broadcast on August 16, the Senator Mushahidullah Khan claimed that the former ISI Chief Lt. General (retd) Zaheerul Islam was ambitious for a coup during the last year’s sit-ins by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and the Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT).

The Senator also claimed that the incumbent government had an audio tape obtained by the Intelligence Bureau (IB) in which the former ISI Chief could be heard giving orders to spread chaos with an ultimate purpose to overthrow the Nawaz Sharif’s government. However, the government denied existence of any recorded tape of former ISI Chief as alleged by Mushahidullah Khan.

The federal government sought an explanation from the minister and asked him to submit his resignation after his irresponsible conversation in an interview to BBC Urdu.

The Senator Mushahidullah was earlier in Maldives but after he returned to Pakistan, he today held a meeting with the prime minster and handed over him his resignation.
