KARACHI, Pakistan: Muttahida Qaumi Movement’s (MQM) candidates Waseem Akhtar and Arshad Vohra have been elected as Mayor and Deputy Mayor of Karachi respectively, according to unofficial and unconfirmed results.

While talking to media in Karachi after voting to elect Mayors, Deputy Mayors along with Chairmen/Vice Chairmen of local councils in all over Sindh ended on Wednesday, Waseem Akhtar requested the Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah to provide him an office with in the premises of his prison to facilitate him in running Karachi’s affairs from behind bars.

Karachi’s newly elected mayor also requested the Sindh Chief Minister to help and guide him.

Waseem Akhtar vowed to work alongside other political parties to solve the issues facing the metropolis.

“I am not a mayor of MQM. I will work for Karachi, I am Karachi’s mayor,” he said.

Talking about cases against him, Waseem Akhtar said that all cases against him are politically motivated and there is no evidence against him. He that if he brought cases pending against him to a court of law, he will be set free.

Referring to Director General Sindh Rangers, Waseem Akhtar reiterated his support for the ongoing operation in Karachi and said that there are elements who want to derail peace of the City.

Waseem Akhtar had been brought under heavy police escort to cast his vote. Later he was against shifted to Central Jail Karachi.
