MQM Chief shifted to police station after being discharged from hospital

LONDON/ISLAMABAD: The Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Chief Altaf Hussain has been shifted to the police station after he was discharged from the hospital, the London Metropolitan Police said.

In a statement, the London Metropolitan Police said that the 60-year-old man arrested on June 3 in connection with a money laundering investigation has now been returned to a police station from hospital.

The MQM Chief underwent an angiography procedure on Thursday at a private hospital in London.

Hussain was admitted at a London hospital after he was arrested by Scotland Yard on suspicion of money laundering on Tuesday.

Passport, NIC to be issued to Hussain after completion of relevant process: FO

Earlier, in her media briefing in Islamabad on Friday, the Foreign Office spokesperson Tasnim Aslam said that a passport and a national identity card will be issued to the MQM Chief after completion of relevant process.

The FO spokesperson said that Pakistan government is ready to extend all possible legal assistance to MQM Chief. She said that Altaf Hussain and his legal team have not yet contacted the Pakistan government for any assistance.

The Foreign Office spokesperson said that Pakistan’s acting high commissioner in London held a 20-minute meeting with the MQM Chief on Thursday and conveyed Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s goodwill message to Altaf Hussain.

Aslam said that the Foreign Office will also act according to the directions of the government in case Altaf Hussain wants any assistance or intends to return to Pakistan.
