ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Former South African Cricketer Mickey Arthur has been appointed as the Head Coach of Pakistan Cricket Team following Waqar Younis resignation from the said position last month.
Mickey Arthur’s appointment as Head Coach Pakistan Cricket Team was made on Friday in an announcement by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).
Following Waqar Younis resignation, the PCB embarked upon a transparent process of inviting applications from potential candidates for the position of Head Coach, says a press release issued on Friday.
The PCB appointed a panel including Wasim Akram, Ramiz Raja and Faisal Mirza to give recommendations to the board. The panel received and reviewed applications forwarded four recommendations to the PCB for it to make a final decision.
After detailed consultations on this matter at the last Board of Governors’ meeting and further consultations by the PCB Chairman Shaharyar Khan with members of Board of Governors (BoG), discussions with Mickey Arthur were initiated and he has confirmed his acceptance of the post of head coach.
It is expected that Mickey Arthur would be able to join the PCB toward the end of this month.
Mickey Arthur had played 110 first-class games as a batsman in South Africa.
As a coach, he led the South African national team to world number one rankings across all foramats. Under his coaching, South Africa won 13 consecutive one day internationals (ODIs), equaling Australia’s world record.
Mickey Arthur also served on the ICC Cricket Committee from 2008 to 2010. He developed and led the implementation of a national high performance coaching framework for South Africa, leading to the rise of internationally successful talent.
He has got Level 4 Coaching Certificate (South Africa). His head coaching positions comprise Karachi Kings 2016, Dhaka Gladiators 2015, Jamaica Tallawahs 2014, Australian National Cricket Team 2011-2013 and South African National Cricket Team 2005-2010.
