ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: There is risk of flash flooding in streams and Nullahs across the country during the next three days due to monsoon rains, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD).

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the PMD has said that flash floods may hit local streams and Nullahs of Punjab, Upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, eastern Balochistan and Kashmir.

The meteorological department has advised the people living in low lying areas along the streams and Nullahs to remain careful.

Meanwhile, widespread rain is expected in Hazara, Rawalpindi, Islamabad, Gujranwala, Lahore divisions, and Kashmir during the next 24 hours.

Likewise, scattered rain is also expected in Sargodha, Faisalabad, Sahiwal, Multan, Dera Ghazi Khan, Zhob, Kalat, Sibi, Naseerabad, Malakand, Peshawar, Kohat, Mardan, Bannu, Dera Ismail Khan, Bahawalpur, Mirpurkhas, Larkana, Sukkur, Hyderabad divisions, Gilgit-Baltistan and the Federally Administrated Tribal Areas (FATA) during this period.

Nawaz directs to expedite relief activities in flood-hit areas

While expressing grief and sorrow over loss of precious lives and damages to property in Chitral floods, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has directed the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) to gear up relief activities in the flood affected areas of the country.

The prime minister could not undertake visit to Chitral today due to bad weather conditions. He also directed National Highway Authority (NHA) to keep N-45 open so that Chitral remains linked with the national road network.

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chief Imran Khan has also directed the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government to extend all help to the affectees in Chitral immediately.

A flood emergency was imposed in Chitral on Monday as torrential rains had resulted in floods in local rivers and Nullahs of the region. The rainy water washed away several bridges and inundated many villages while several areas in the district were cut off because of the floods and damages to communication system.

The Pakistan Army and Frontier Corps (FC) are carrying out rescue and relief operation in flood-hit areas of Chitral to mitigate sufferings of the affected people.

In a statement, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said that two army helicopters are engaged in the relief operation. It said that over eight tons food has so far been distributed among the stranded people and at least 50 persons have been rescued.
