Martyrdom of Haroon Bilour widely condemned

Islamabad, Pakistan: President of Pakistan Mamnoon Hussein, interim Prime Minister Justice (retd) Nasirul Mulk and Chief of Pakistan Army Gen Qamar Bajwa have condemned terrorist suicide attack on Awami National Party (ANP) corner meeting that resulted martyrdom of ANP candidate Haroon Bashir Bilour and his 12 workers at Yaka Toot Area on Tuesday night.

Born in 1974, Haroon was son of late Bashir Ahmed Bilour who was himself martyred in a suicide blast in Peshawar in 2012. Haroon was contesting election from PK-78 Peshawar.

According to eyewitnesses, suicide member blew him up when Haroon reached stage for addressing corner meeting. Injured were shifted to hospital where Haroon succumbed to his injuries.

Chief Election Commissioner of Pakistan Sardar Mohammad Raza termed the incident as weakness of security institutions and an attack on peaceful electioning process.

It is pertinent to mention that ANP was not allowed to contest elections freely during 2013 elections and there were several attacks on ANP offices by Tehrik e Taliban Pakistan (TTP) which officially did not allow Pakistan People’s Party and ANP to contest elections peacefully. Over 200 ANP workers were killed by TTP during 2013 election process.
