Maldivian president to arrive in Islamabad on Wednesday

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Maldivian President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom will arrive in Islamabad on Wednesday for a two-day official visit to Pakistan, according to media reports.

The official sources said that during his visit, the Maldivian president will hold meetings with his Pakistani counterpart Mamnoon Hussain and Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.

The source said that matters related to the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) and regional issues will be discussed in talks between the Maldivian president and the Pakistani leadership in Islamabad.

President Abdulla Yameen was scheduled to arrive in Pakistan for a three-day official visit on June 11 last year. However, his visit was postponed for an indefinite period following the terrorist attack on Karachi airport.

During his visit, he had plans to meet Pakistani leadership including the prime minister. He was also scheduled to visit the Maldivian embassy as well as to meet representatives of various chambers of commerce during his visit.
