Maldives President to visit Pakistan from Wednesday

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Maldives President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom will pay a two-day state visit to Pakistan from Wednesday on the invitation of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.

“Pakistan attaches great importance to its relations with the Maldives,” the Foreign Office Spokesperson Tasnim Aslam said in a statement.

During his visit, Maldives president will hold talks with his Pakistani counterpart Mamnoon Hussain and the prime minister.

President Mamnoon will hold a state banquet in the honour of visiting dignitary.

The foreign office spokesperson said that during the visit, Pakistan and Maldives will review all important aspects of their bilateral relations. A number of documents on cooperation in Health, Education Illicit Drugs, Narcotics Trafficking and sports will also be signed.

“Pakistan and Maldives enjoy close and cordial relations. The relations are based on mutual trust, common faith and understanding. Pakistan and Maldives have been actively cooperating with each other at the regional level and at the multilateral fora,” the spokesperson said.
