RAWALPINDI, Pakistan: Lieutenant General Rizwan Akhtar has been appointed as the new Director General Inter Service Intelligence (ISI) after he was promoted to the new rank from Major General along with five other Pakistan army officers.

The Director General Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) Major Asim Bajwa made the announcement on Monday on his twitter account.

The DG ISPR said that those officers who have been promoted to rank of Lieutenant General include Major General Rizwan Akhtar, Major General Hilal Hussain, Major General Ghayur Mahmood, Major General Nazir Butt, Major General Navid Mukhtar and Major General Hidayatur Rehman and Major General Nazir But.

Bajwa said that Lt. General Hilal Hussain has been appointed Corps Commander Mangla, Lt. General Ghayyur Mahmood Corps Commander Gujranwala, Lt. General Hidayatur Rehman Corps Commander Peshawar, Lt. General Navid Mukhtar Corps Commander Karachi and Lt. General Nazir Butt Inspector General Communication and Information Technology.

The announcement comes as current ISI chief Lt. General Zaheerul Islam and five Lt. Generals are scheduled to retire from service in the first week of October.

The military officers retiring in October include ISI chief Lt. Generals Zaheerul Islam, Mangla corps commander Lt. Generals Tariq Khan, Gujranwala corps commander Lt. Generals Saleem Nawaz, Peshawar corps commander Lt. Generals Khalid Rabbani and Karachi corps commander Lt. Generals Sajjad Ghani.
