ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Veteran actress Shamim Ara passed away on Friday in London after long illness which is confirmed by the family. She was 78.

The Lollywood actress of 50s and 60s, a famous film producer, was under treatment in London since she suffered a brain haemorrhage in 2010. The artiste underwent a brain surgery but did not fully recuperate and went into coma.

Her first film Kunwari Baywa did not yield much success at the box office but the role gained her a lot of respect.

Shortly after that, she got a string of hit films under her name such as Devdas, Doraha, Humraz and other films.

Shamim Ara’s contribution was not only limited as an actor but she had also contributed as a director and producer to the film industry of Pakistan. Shamim Ara was awarded Nigar Awards four times.

She has been living with her son in London now a days.

On the sad demise of film actress Shamim Ara, President Mamnoon Hussain and Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif expressed their deepest condolences.

In their separate condolence messages, they prayed Almighty Allah to bless the departed soul with eternal peace and grant courage to the bereaved family to bear the irreparable loss.

The prime minister said that the late film actress played a vital role in the development of film industry in Pakistan through her immeasurable talent.

“Pakistan has lost a great asset and her contribution towards the promotion of film industry will always be remembered,” the prime minister said.

The Information Minister Pervez Rasheed also expressed grief and sorrow over the death of versatile film actress Shamim Ara.

In his condolence message, he prayed for the departed soul and commiserated with the bereaved family.
