ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Minister for Planning, Development and Reforms Ahsan Iqbal has said that latest technology would be used in power generation through coal to ensure safe environment.

He pointed out the percentage of coal power generation in the country was very nominal which was less than one percent of the total production of electricity.

Talking to a news channel, he said the government was taking precautionary measures in transporting and using coal to keep the environment free of pollution.

Ahsan Iqbal said supercritical technology would be used in coal power plant which would be established with the financing of Asian Development Bank (ADB) in Jamshoro.

First time in the history of the country, the minister said that a mega Nuclear power plant would be set up with power generation capacity of 2,000 megawatt.

He said that Thar was enriched with natural coal reservoirs and the incumbent government was committed to utilize it for producing electricity to overcome power shortage in the country.
