No traffic police on road in Lahore on Eid al-Adha
Lahore, Pakistan: Lahore Traffic Police were not seen on roads on the first day of Eid al-Adha where thousands of underage motorcycle riders were free to hit people and run away.
Majority of accident took place on Ferozpur Road beat area. General Hospital Lahore authorities confirmed that majority of cases of injuries received by hospital emergency were underage motorcycle riders who came for first aid for minor injuries due to skidding of their motorcycles. Hospital authorities said that majority of injured persons were without serious injuries and were relieved from hospital after first aid. When asked about total number of Medico-legal cases, authorities said that police could provide data because hospital authorities are not allowed to share such data with journalists.
Almost every motorcycle was carrying three to four young boys who were free to rule roads of metropolitan city of Lahore.
There was virtually no policeman on duty on first day of Eid al-Adha in Liberty, Ferozpur Road, Chungi Amarsadhu, Model Town and Town Ship areas.
It was observed that almost 100 percent underage motorcycle riders were driving without safety helmets.
“There is no State writ over motorcyclists in Lahore. They are free to drive without safety helmets and they are free to drive without driving licenses. They can hit any Carwala (car rider) and can run away unchecked. If you report to policemen, they just smile at you and say—no problem you are save and your car has just minute damage—forgive them and do not waste your time”, commented Syed Umair Ali whose car was hit by two over-speeding underage motorcycle riders near Kanchi Ferozpur Road who ran away from the scene.
While talking to Dispatch News Desk (DND) news agency, Umair said that Lahore Traffic Police work only to save motorcyclists and Rakhshaw drivers or for rich people driving SUVs.
