RAWALPINDI, Pakistan: The relief activities carried out by civil administration rescue teams and Pakistan army are in full swing to retrieve the remaining people from the debris of an under construction factory which went down in Lahore on Wednesday.

On Wednesday, a four-storey polythene bags factory collapsed at Sundar Industrial Estate (SIE) near Multan Road in Lahore which left at least 24 persons dead and several others injured.

In a statement, the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) spokesman said on Thursday that more than 250 Army troops including an Urban Rescue and Search team along with four engineers plants, two loaders and two excavators, two dumpers and four ambulances are busy in rescue operation since last night at the site of collapsed building in Lahore.

As many as 102 persons have so far been rescued safely from the debris of the collapsed building.

Earlier, the District Coordination Officer (DCO) Lahore Captain (retd) Muhammad Usman told media that Army Engineering Corps and rescue teams are using heavy machinery for early clearance of the rubble so that remaining trapped workers could be saved alive.

The Director General Operation Khawaja Salman Rafique told that eight cranes are being used for rescue while 30 ambulances and 30 vehicles of Rescue 1122 are also busy in the operation.

An emergency has been declared in all government hospitals to provide best medical facilities to the injured.

The Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has ordered an inquiry into the incident.
