KPK to hold LG polls in May, Punjab in Nov & Sindh in March next year

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The local government elections in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will take place in May 2015, in Punjab in November 2015 whereas polling in Sindh will be held in March next year.

A meeting of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) was held in Islamabad on Friday under the chairmanship of Chief Election Commissioner Justice (retd) Sardar Raza Khan.

Later, addressing a press conference in Islamabad, the ECP’s acting secretary Sher Afgan said that it was decided in the commission meeting that local government elections in remaining three provinces will be completed by March next year.

The ECP’s acting secretary said that according to schedule, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) will hold local bodies elections by May 2015, Punjab by November 2015 and Sindh by March 2016.

Sher Afgan said that all the three provinces have informed the ECP regarding delimitations and other arrangement.

The local government elections has already taken place in Balochistan province peacefully and smoothly.

The first phase of the local government elections in Balochistan took place on December 7, 2013, second and third phase on May 29 and December 31, 2014 respectively, while the fourth and last phase was conducted on January 28, 2015.
