KPK, Balochistan reservations over CPEC removed, says Khattak

PESHAWAR, Pakistan: As the federal government has taken various political parties into confidence with regards to the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), the Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Pervez Khattak has said that reservations of his province and Balochistan over the mega project have been removed.

Talking to media representatives in Nowshera, Khattak lauded the role of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, the Opposition leader in the National Assembly Syed Khursheed Shah and other political leaders in this regard.

The Chief Minister also expressed optimism about resolution of load-shedding and electricity profit issues.

Meanwhile, talking to the students of universities of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan in Islamabad, the Minister for Planning Ahsan Iqbal said that the CPEC would bring socio-economic development in the country.

The minister briefed the students about the benefits of economic corridor between Pakistan and China for the two provinces.

Iqbal told them that various development projects like Gwadar airport, technical institutions and hospitals would be built in the port city of Gwadar.

On Thursday, during an all parties conference held in Islamabad, the parliamentary leaders of all political parties extended complete support and practical cooperation to the federal government for the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor project.

Earlier, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa & Balochistan provinces and some political parties had expressed their concerns regarding route of the CPEC.

The $46 billion project was signed when the Chinese President Xi Jinping paid a two-day official visit to Pakistan on April 20-21. Under the project, Pakistan’s southern port city of Gwadar will be connected with China’s northwestern autonomous region of Xinjiang, via a network of highways, railways and pipelines to transport oil and gas.
