PakistanKhursheed Shah warns govt on construction of Kalabagh Dam

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Opposition leader in the National Assembly Syed Khursheed Shah has warned the federal government on the construction of controversial Kalabagh Dam.

In a statement on Tuesday, the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) senior leader said that issued related to the much-talked about dam should not be reopened.

The PPP leader said that his party has already recorded its protest against the construction of Kalabagh Dam.

His remarks came hours after the Federal Minister of Water and Power Khawaja Muhammad Asif informed the Senate that the government is planning for several water projects including Kalabagh Dam.

In reply to a question in the Upper House of the Parliament on Tuesday, the minister said that Kalabagh Dam will be built along with other hydropower projects.

The proposed hydropower project on River Indus near Kalabagh has been vehemently opposed by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Sindh provinces in the past and provincial assemblies have also passed unanimous resolutions against the contentious project.
