ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Opposition Leader in the National Assembly Syed Khursheed Shah said on Tuesday that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif should take responsibility for nearly 500 deaths caused by devastating heatwave in Sindh.
While speaking on the floor of the House on Tuesday, Khursheed Shah said that in the presence of heatwave, long duration of load shedding carried out by the government has increased the difficulties of the people
Shah said that the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) in its tenure had ended the concept of load shedding at Iftar and Sehr timings during the holy month of Ramazan. He said that the incumbent government has not set a good tradition.
In his remarks in the lower house of the parliament, the Muttahida Qaumi Movement’s (MQM) leader Rashid Godil said that they will observe day of mourning on Friday over deaths in Karachi and offered Namaz-e-Janaza in absentia outside the Parliament House today for those killed in the current heatwave.
While Shah Mahmood Qureshi of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) said that they will give a requisition for the summoning of the National Assembly to discuss the increasing load shedding in hot weather.
The Federal Finance Minister Ishaq Dar in his address stressed the need for resolving the issue of load shedding together as it is a national issue.
“We will continue this session and talk on the issue of power crisis and find a solution,” Dar said.
The finance minister also urged the opposition to keep the budget separate from politics.
Earlier, at the outset of the proceedings, the House offered Dua for the departed souls of those killed in Karachi due to heatwave.
